Patrick Collins is a creative director and designer with a passion for children’s books. He believes that well-designed illustrated books introduce children not only to the world of art but also play an important role in a child's development and emotional intelligence, and help to expand their understanding of the world around them. Previously he was the Creative Director for Henry Holt Books for Young Readers, a division of Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group. Some of the publishers Patrick has worked with include Levine Querido, Bloomsbury, and Little Brown. He has extensive expertise in the children’s book industry, handling projects from manuscript to final bound book, collaborating with editors, art directing illustrators, managing designers, designing covers and interiors, and preparing digital files for print. A creative problem solver, he maintains high design standards with the ability to grasp the big picture while keeping an eye on fine details. He has art directed and designed highly marketable books including New York Times bestsellers and ALA award winners. He has had the honor to work on projects by outstanding authors and illustrators including; Eric Carle, Ed Young, Peter McCarty, Laurie Keller, Dare Coulter, and Steve Salerno. When not designing books, Patrick can be found in the kitchen cooking up something delicious, or out on the porch picking a tune on his mandolin.
